Lessons from Readicide

Well...reading this small little book really opened my eyes to the reality of where the love for reading is going. As educators, we have to show our students how wonderful books really are. Of course there will always be few that won't find the love, but we should still try.

In regards to the awesome GPS (haha) the standards have been lowered when it comes to reading and writing and if you disagree, go spend a day in 12th grade. I do not believe this entire country is failing when it comes to standards, but Ga sure is.

  1. Georgia definitely has some work to do. I'm not sure if you've heard of the common core standards and Georgia is adopting those. The purpose is so that the nation can be tested with national tests for comparison. I like the common core because every state will have the same standards. Imagine that?! Oddly though, they are very similar to what Georgia already has so the question is... is the whole country going to be like us? I sure hope not. I'm sure they are better rounded though. You may want to google it. I think by 2014 the whole country should be on these.

  2. well i agree that we have begun to foster some what low standards for reading in the U.S. As a Georgia alumni i can deffilently also say that our public schools are also falling behind, but all of our problems in school can't be attributed to the school. we must also consider the environment that these children grow up in and if the students are even motivated to learn.

  3. Kristina-I've heard of the common standards, but they are not in place yet... Hopefully we will see Ga improve.
